In today’s film news roundup, “A Star Is Born” gets an Imax release, Oscar winner Stephen Flick gets an honor and Jeremy Renner’s “Arctic Dogs” is set for a 2019 release.

Awards contender “A Star Is Born” has been set for a one-week Imax release beginning on Dec. 7 — the first time the Lady Gaga-Bradley Cooper drama has been shown in the large-screen format.

Warner Bros. Pictures, Live Nation Productions and Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures made the announcement on Monday. The showings will include “The Road to Stardom,” an exclusive look at the making of “A Star Is Born,” featuring Cooper and Gaga, both of whom also wrote and produced many of the film’s songs, and performed them live for the movie.

Byron Allen’s Esmp Takes On U.S. Distribution Of Animation ‘Arctic Dogs’ Voiced By Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin
Byron Allen’s distribution label Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures has picked up U.S. rights to Arctic Dogs, the animated film featuring the voices of Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin and Angelica Huston.

The movie, formerly known as Arctic Justice, was previously on the slate of Open Road, which filed for bankruptcy in September. Esmp struck a deal for the film at last month’s American Film Market, and the pic is being lined up for a wide theatrical release on more than 3,500 screens in 2019.

Arctic Dogs tells the story of Swifty (Renner), an Arctic fox who stumbles upon a dark scheme to melt the Arctic. He teams with his ragtag group of friends to try and save the day. Voice co-stars include Heidi Klum, Alec Baldwin, John Cleese, James Franco, Angelica Huston, Michael Madsen, Omar Sy and Laurie Holden.

Jeremy Renner’s Animated Movie ‘Arctic Dogs’ Acquired by Entertainment Studios for 2019 Release
Byron Allen’s theatrical arm Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures acquired the U.S. rights to animated feature “Arctic Dogs,” the company announced Monday.

The film, previously titled “Arctic Justice,” was picked up by Entertainment Studios at the American Film Market and will be scheduled for wide theatrical release on over 3,500 screens in 2019.

“Arctic Dogs” was written by Cal Brunker and Bob Barlen. It was was produced by Monika Bacardi and Andrea Iervolino, and executive produced by Byron Allen, Jennifer Lucas, Carolyn Folks, A.K. Madhavan, Danielle Maloni, and Francesca Silvani. Giovanni Cova is co-executive producer.

Norm of the North 2 Begins Production for 2018 Release

Assemblage Entertainment, the feature-film focused CGI animation studio has begun production on Norm of the North 2, the sequel of 2016 theatrical feature film Norm of the North, along with Splash Entertainment, Lionsgate and Dfg Family. The movie is coming in 2018, but no release date was given for this animated sequel, and no voice cast members have been confirmed at this time. If it does hit theaters this year, it will join other animated sequels such as Sony's Hotel Transylvania 3, Pixar's The Incredibles 2, Paramount's Sherlock Gnomes and Disney's Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. Open Road Films has acquired all U.S. rights to Arctic Justice: Thunder Squad – the epic 3D CGI animated family film from Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi’s Ambi Media Group. The movie features the voices of Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin, Heidi Klum, John Cleese, James Franco, Anjelica Huston and Omar Sy, and is directed by Aaron Woodley. The announcement was made today by Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films.

Open Road will release Arctic Justice wide in 2018. Animation work for the film is currently being done out of Ambi’s Toronto based studio, Aic Studios. The movie is fully financed and being produced by Ambi and its principals, Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi.

Open Road acquires Ambi animation 'Arctic Justice'
Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin, Heidi Klum, John Cleese, James Franco, Anjelica Huston, Omar Sy and John Cleese among voice cast.

Open Road has picked up Us rights from Ambi Media Group to the 3D CGI animated feature Arctic Justice: Thunder Squad.

The distributor plans a wide theatrical release in 2018. Ambi is fully financing the project and animation work is in progress at its Toronto-based Aic Studios.

Ambi principals Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi are producing and Aaron Woodley directs the story about a scratch team of furry heroes that assembles to thwart a villain’s plans to accelerate global warming.

“The family film audience is hungry for quality product and we are very happy to serve up something fresh and topical with Arctic Justice,” Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg said.

The Oscar-nominated actor will lend his voice talent and play the lead role in the 3D CGI animated family film.

Ambi Group, Barajoun strike animation partnership

Ambi Distribution commences talks at Efm this week on the animation Bilal from Barajoun Entertainment, the Dubai-based animation and effects house with whom Ambi Group has unveiled a five-film partnership.

The deal between Ambi Group co-founders Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi and Barajoun Entertainment owner Ayman Jamal will see the parties co-finance and co-produce family-centric CGI animated films budgeted in the $50m range.

Barajoun’s studios and Ambi’s Aic Studios in Toronto will co-develop and produce the content, and will additionally explore live-action features based on popular IP. Ambi Distribution will oversee worldwide distribution on the slate.

Bilal, which is not part of the upcoming five films, is inspired by a true story of an African Hero who braved oppression and ultimately became a leader of his time. Ayman Jamal and Khurram H. Alavi directed and the voice cast includes Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Ian McShane.

Ambi Pictures To Remake Christopher Nolan’s Memento

Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi’s Ambi Pictures will finance and produce a remake of Christopher Nolan’s iconic, twist-laden film Memento.

Writer/director Christopher Nolan adapted Memento from a short story by his brother Jonathan Nolan titled “Memento Mori”, and the unusual, neo-noir psychological thriller took audiences by storm upon release in 2000 and has since achieved cult hit status with a fervent following.

Starring Guy Pearce, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Joe Pantoliano, Memento was lauded for its nonlinear narrative structure and motifs of memory, perception, grief, and self-deception. Ambi Group launches $200m fund

The warchest will finance a slate of high-end, star-driven commercial feature films through the Ambi Pictures production and finance division.

Ambi Group co-owners Monika Bacardi and Andrea Iervolino (pictured) are anchor investors in the fund with New York-based private equity firm Raven Capital Management LLC.

Ambi will deploy $200m to fully finance five features in the $25-30m range and at least 10 budgeted at under $10m.

Ambi and Raven will continue to co-finance projects with third-party partners outside the fund.

Last month Ambi acquired the 400-strong Exclusive Media Group film library that includes such titles as Begin Again, Cruel Intentions, Donnie Darko, End Of Watch, Rush and Memento.

Bacardi and Iervolino also hold rights to a number of titles on Exclusive Media Group’s active development slate as well as all sequel and remake rights.

Jamie Foxx to lead ‘Groove Tails’ voice cast

Jamie Foxx has signed on to voice the lead character in CGI animated family film Groove Tails, from Ambi Group and Imprint Entertainment.

Foxx will also produce the film with Imprint’s Michael Becker and Ambi principals Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi. The script was written by Johnny Mack, who will also serve as an executive producer. Cameron Hood (co-director of Megamind) will direct.

Ambi’s Aic Studios in Toronto will animate and produce the film and Ambi Distribution, the worldwide sales arm of the Ambi Group, will oversee worldwide distribution.

Groove Tails, is about the world of competitive street dance competitions for mice. Foxx will voice lead character Biggz, who tries to regain his confidence for dance and pay off his debt to a club while cleaning up the streets from the alley cats and winning the love of a girl.

Costa de Beauregard Rose reports to Ambi Distribution’s Julie Sultan and will help oversee sales and distribution and identify finished features and scripts.

The Beverly Hills-based company’s international sales slate includes contemporary fairy tale This Beautiful Fantastic, James Franco’s In Dubious Battle, 3D CGI family animation Arctic Justice: Thunder Squad, sci-fi thriller Rupture starring Noomi Rapace.

Fellini estate clear new 'La Dolce Vita' film

Modern take on classic film in the pipeline from Ambi Group.

A new feature is in the works that has been dubbed “an homage” to La Dolce Vita, Federico Fellini’s classic film starring Marcello Mastroianni as a philandering paparazzo journalist in Rome.

Los Angeles-based Ambi Group has closed an option agreement with the Fellini family and estate make the new feature, which they will finance and produce with Italian producer Daniele Di Lorenzo.

Di Lorenzo will produce the film through his Ldm Productions banner. Ambi, in addition to financing and producing through Ambi Pictures, will oversee global distribution of the film through its international sales division, Ambi Distribution.

Francesca Fellini, niece of Federico Fellini, said: “We’ve been approached countless times and asked to consider everything from remakes and re-imaginings to prequels and sequels. We knew it would take very special producers and compelling circumstances to motivate the family to allow rights to be optioned.”

Based in Toronto they are hosting the first annual benefit gala in support of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and Cinema To Help the World to address our planet’s alarming environmental situation.
